We already have a uniden system attached to the house that is wired into our tv for monitoring but we wanted to add some cameras to 2 extra areas outside and well away from the house. So I picked this 2 camera system from jbhifi for $200. You do have to plug the cameras into mains power but I'd rather that then run off batteries that need replacing and charging all the time. We have one plugged into one of sheds out back but the other one is all the way out the front monitoring the front gate so we have to ru... I did not have to enter the uid code and I cannot find the requirement for uid code for U1420 system from the manual.

Unfortunately another item must be purchased through Uniden to run the system remotely and you can no longer view through AV cables onto a larger monitor. Uniden sent me a dock, Had a few problems setting up the remote viewing, and had to re-install the app several times to have it function properly. Overall its a good little set up, not recommended if you want to view on larger monitor as I wished to. Does the job and can have up to four cameras running.
The app dock remote veiwing was a little dodgy to start with but time will hopefully iron out problems and possibly better than the previous skype version. I have the monitor plugged into a power point in the kitchen so I can always see what's going on and the audio function is fantastic! I can hear everything so clearly and love being able to speak through the camera. Can be used as an intercom at the front gate which is handy.
I prefer this to having to replace a battery in the installed camera every few months. It has good night vision and can be set to record movement or continuously. Unfortunately it records bushes and trees when it is windy. It has a 8 GB memory card but I bought a 32GB card so it lasts about 4 or 5 weeks before recording over it.
